In Time

In time we’re told we grow and grow old
Despite the eternal soul this body must go

She had three children, the youngest is me
Although I only knew her until I was three
She gave me so much
There’s nothing to a newborn like a mother’s touch
I knew it once, but never again
In time all things must come to an end
But this seems early, far too hasty
Who knew that 35 would be the end of my old lady?
Not me. Nor my pa.
Are these the types of things that we “leave up to God?”
I still feel her presence
Even though back then I was too young to get it
I understand how, but really, how?
Why’s the cure for cancer still underground?
If one breaks through, will it be allowed?
What do we have to do to keep our families around?
There’s enough as it is, trying to raise kids
Keepin food on the table and a warm place to live
Why’d the help that we had never seem to do the trick?
We can build atomic bombs, but we can’t cure the sick?
Yeah right, and war is for peace.
If we had what we needed, my mom wouldn’t be deceased.
The cures exist but seem to slip
Just beyond our fingertips
